Dr. Jesse Nippert, Professor of Biology, and Dr. Lydia Zeglin, Associate Professor of Biology along with other members of the Kansas State University (KSU) Biology Department have received a National Science Foundation Long Term Ecological Research (NSF LTER) award for $7.12 million to support the next six years of long-term ecological research at the Konza Prairie Biological Station. Both professors are researchers are also currently working on the Kansas NSF EPSCoR RII Track-1 Award OIA-1656006: Microbiomes of Aquatic, Plant, and Soil Systems across Kansas (MAPS). This award marks the eighth consecutive NSF LTER grant renewal received by the KSU Biology Department supporting more than 40 years of the Konza Prairie research.
Co-owned by KSU and The Nature Conservancy, the Konza Prairie, an 8,600-acre native tallgrass prairie research station, is managed by faculty in the KSU Division of Biology in the College of Arts and Sciences. The Konza Prairie is renowned as a world-class education, outreach, and grassland ecology research facility.
The Konza Prairie has more than 100 active research projects including several being conducted by MAPS students and faculty.
