The Indigenous Peoples Specialty Group (ISPG) of the American Association of Geographers will highlight the work of the Haskell Environmental Research Studies Institute  (HERS) during the group’s first plenary poster session at the AAG’s annual meeting in Denver, Colorado this April. The HERS program is one of the workforce development and education initiatives supported by the Kansas NSF EPSCoR RII Track-1 Award OIA-1656006: Microbiomes of Aquatic, Plant, and Soil Systems across Kansas (MAPS) The session will be focused on the work of Indigenous Research Programs. The IPSG will provide $500 to the HERS program to support our interns participation in this conference. The IPSG has a long history of supporting and mentoring Indigenous students and community members at the national and regional meetings of the AAG.

 

Workforce Development, Education and outreach funding is provided by the Kansas NSF EPSCoR RII Track-1 Award OIA-1656006 titled: “Microbiomes of Aquatic, Plant, and Soil Systems across Kansas.”  The award’s educational objectives are designed to enhance STEM education in Kansas by supporting activities that will lead to an expanded STEM workforce or prepare a new generation for STEM careers in the areas of aquatic, plant and soil microbiome environments and ecological systems.
